Thank you for this wonderful story. Molly was so lucky to have finally found a home with a human who understood what happened to her and could imagine a past that explained her present. We have a Molly, too--a heeler who came to us in 2008 at the reported age of 4. Like your Molly, she's a very important part of our lives.

Our pets are such a special part of our lives. I remember hearing about your heeler occasionally. I hear many stories about animals being dumped in rural areas. In Molly's case, we could gather many facts—the accident, male owner, woman who gave her away, rehoming in a parking lot, my daughter finding her, and so on. We didn't have to fill in anything except standard daily activities to complete her story. However, in rescue work, we find it helpful to know the story because it influences their behavior, as it does ours. I wish we could get the history of more of them, especially when we try to make a perfect fit for the animal and a new family.
